Awesome, rockin', swingin', self-actualizin' story there, Cathy. And glad u included Art Garfunkel, so people won't overlook the early years; as I just read recently that Paul Simon considers Graceland his best album.

Thank you Lou for your wise supportive Substack for us Oldsters, and Cathy Jacob for her growing older in life, life advice. As far as writing your first book, Cathy, you seem very close to doing that. I turned 73 this year in May and self-published my first novel I'd been working on at the end of September. How? No. 1, I wrote about what I cared most deeply about. No. 2, I finally stopped worrying too much about what to write. Just asked myself to ponder what that might be at its convenience and let me know what it might be, also at its convenience. No. 3, someone I met asked to read the first 35 pages of my book. Finding a cool person to read the first pages made all the difference in the world. So, wishing you all the best in everything, and especially in writing your first book.

Hooray for publishing your first novel, Larry! I love hearing about what people are doing "for the first time" in the second half of life! 🙌🏼

Thanks for the Hooray. It's so awesome and great of you to have your Substack blog. If AARP has a list of best blogs, yours should definitely be included. People sometimes are so easily defeated into not being able to imagine what they could do for the first time after being exiled into a sometimes virtual incommunicado for real when they retire or just by circumstances in the second act or part of their lives. Major media presents such a stark grim picture of what life will be likely be like when one reaches a certain age. But there are all sorts of opportunities and possibilities of which reading your blog is just one. Gets everyone feeling better from the first word. Looking forward to reading your future posts.

Aww, thanks so much for the compliment, Larry. It definitely made my day! My hope is that with more and more of us having a voice and sharing our experiences, people's attitudes about the second half of life are changing and be more embracing of this phase in our lives. Thank you again Larry. I'm so glad that you're part of this community.

Cathy, wonderful to read the insights you've gained through the many phases of your life. So interesting and revealing about where your head is at as a writer.

I feel like you are nudging closer to writing that book - and I hope you nail it in 2025. I will be standing by, ready to cheer you across the finish line, with a cheerleader's pom pom in one hand and a bottle of prosecco in the other!
